Kilcormac Ramblers

          New Year's Day 2007

About the club:
The Walking Club, known as Kilcormac Ramblers, started up in December 1994, following a short walk in the Cadamstown area, on a Sunday afternoon. An impromptu meeting took place, over a cup of tea, in Joan Roche’s Teashop. A committee was set up, and its purpose was to organize walks to various places in our locality. The club has a membership of approx. 40 people, who enjoy the monthly walks.
There are three special occasions during the Ramblers year.
The first of these is on New Year’s Day, when the Ramblers organise a sponsored walk in aid of Offaly Hospice. The finishing point for this walk has been traditionally Dan & Molly’s, Ballyboy. Everyone is welcome to join in the New Year’s Day walk.
The second occasion is the Ramblers Annual outing. This takes place in August each year, and many notable places have been visited - Aran Islands, Hill of Tara, The Burren, to mention but a few.
The third occasion is the Ramblers night out, usually after Christmas each year, when members come together in a social setting, and let their hair down.
Membership of the Ramblers is for one year commencing 1st Jan, each year.
Further details of events and membership fee for the coming year will be available shortly.

New Year's Day 2007
Once again the Kilcormac Ramblers New Year's Day walk was an outstanding success. As in previous years it was a sponsored walk, with all proceeds going to Offaly Hospice. The walk commenced at 2.00p.m. at the G.A.A. field at Kilcormac and escorted by Brian Meacle from the Mountbolus Pipe Band made their way down Birr St. and Main St. and onto Ballyboy.
Thanks to Brian Meacle who comes out each year to do the honours. It is much appreciated by The Ramblers. The walkers were accompanied by Co. Offaly Civil Defence, and thanks to them for their attendance each year. Then it was time for much needed refreshments, and these were provided in Dan & Mollys by Molly, Vera and girls, and also were much appreciated by the weary walkers. The very well supported raffle then took place and this was followed by an evening entertainment, with much music, singing and dancing. Joe Coughlan, as usual, was in attendance to lead off the merry making with some very entertaining recitations and singing. Thanks to Joe, he is there every year to support the Ramblers, and this is appreciated. Thanks to Liam Buckley who was to the fore in leading off the music.
The Ramblers say thanks to everyone who came out on the walk on Monday, to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and supported the fundraising in any way for Offaly Hospice. Special thanks to Dan & Mollys for their great support and sponsorship each year. This is the thirteenth year in succession for the Ramblers to go to Ballyboy on New Year's Day, and it is eagerly looked forward to by everyone, as it is one of the most enjoyable days of the whole year.

Annual Dinner
The Ramblers celebrated their annual night out with a beautiful meal in the Enroute Bistro in the Fivealley on Jan. 23. Over 50 members had a wonderful night with plenty of singing, recitations and dancing to entertain the crowd. The proceeds of the New Year's Day walk, €1240 were presented to Offaly Hospice on the night. You can get a flavour of the night from the photos below.
