KILCORMAC
RAMBLERS NEW YEARS DAY WALK
Once again the Kilcormac Ramblers New Years Day walk was an outstanding
success. Despite the bad weather of frost and fog over 50 people set
out from the G.A.A. field for the annual walk to Ballyboy. Before
setting off, however , many of the walkers were’ insulated’
against the weather having first visited at Marty’s old style
kitchen in Birr St, where Lucy doled out the punch. Thanks to Marty
and Lucy for their hospitality.
The walk,
led as usual by Co. Offaly Civil Defence and of course Brian Meacle
from Mountbolus Pipe Band started off and proceeded through Mountrath
St., St. Cormac’s Park, Fair Green St. and Main St. and onto
Ballyboy. A bucket collection was taken up in the pubs and along the
way to Ballyboy and donations were very generous. The walkers paid
their annual call to Marie Slevin on the Ballyboy Road, and Marie
gave very generously to the bucket collection, which was in aid of
Offaly Hospice.
On
arrival in Ballyboy never was a cup of tea more welcome, and as usual
there was a feast prepared by Molly, Vera and the girls, and sincere
thanks to them for it. All donations for the tea also went to the
Hospice. There then followed a raffle for numerous prizes, and this
was very well supported.
Then
it was time for the social side to the day. Chairman of the Ramblers
Seamus Barron started off proceedings by remembering the late Joe
Coughlan, who was always in Dan and Mollys to entertain and welcome
the Ramblers on New Years Day. Joe was missed, but we had Johnny Reddin
who entertained in his own inimitable style. Then Liam Buckley on
the guitar led the music and singing for what was a long and very
enjoyable evening. Many singers contributed and there were also some
recitations.
Seamus
returned thanks to all involved in the day. Special thanks to all
who sponsored prizes for the raffle. This support is greatly appreciated.
All money collected is going to Offaly Hospice.

St.
Patrick's Day Parade 2007
This
year's parade was another outstanding success. Even the cold wet conditions
could not dampen the enthusiasm of the large crowd who gathered to
watch 50 entries pass the review stand. Some pictures can be seen

Joe
Coleman Honoured
The
Saint Patrick's Day parade committee organised a presentation to Joe
Coleman in Dan and Molly's recently. Joe has been chairman and M.C.
of the parade committee for all of its 21 years in existence and this
year he announced his retirement from the role. A beautiful piece
of bog oak and yew, sculpted by Don O'Boyle, was presented to Joe.
In expressing his thanks for the presentation, Joe pointed out that
the success of the parade was down to the local families who put so
much effort into the parade each year and he saw no reason why it
could not go from strength to strength.
