Kilcormac Ramblers first outing in 2017 was their Annual New Year’s Day fundraiser for Offaly Hospice. First call was to Marty & Lucy’s Birr Street for the old commandos hot beverages, to face the crispy, sunny afternoon walk from the GAA field, where a sizeable crowd gathered including members of Rambles in Eireann club. They followed with the beautiful strains in the clear air of the bagpipes played by Brian Meacle through, Birr street, Mountrath street, St. Cormac’s Park and back to the Square and then to Ballyboy, with the safety car drive by Mary O’Driscoll and cyclist Nora Carroll. Again, the walkers marched to Dan & Molly’s pub with the piper Brain Meacle at the head. The Ardara Hill walkers joined the group at a later stage as their walk was much longer. Thanks to Molly, Vera and the staff for the variety of food, tea and coffee, then the raffle, everyone contributed to the entertainment well into the night, spearheaded by Seamus Barron and Liam Buckley. Thanks to Molly Bolan, Vera Hayden, The Ramblers committee, the stewards, Brian Meacle. Thanks to the people who gave prizes, food and donations or helped in any way to make the day such a success. A special thanks to Nora Carroll and her dance group for their donation of €260, to bring the total to date €1,327.60.
