KILCORMAC RAMBLERS
Once again the Kilcormac Ramblers New Year's Day walk was an outstanding success.
The sponsored walk, with all proceeds going to Offaly Hospice, commenced at Ballyboy at 11.30a.m. when up to fifty walkers started out on the walk which saw them going in two different directions, with a 'soup stop' at the Idle Corner, and ending up a few hours later, back in Ballyboy. Brian Meacle, from the Mountbolus Pipe Band ceremoniously piped the walkers into Dan & Mollys, where Vera, Molly and the girls had a feast of tea, sandwiches and refreshments waiting. After the tea, and following a very successful raffle, the music and song commenced, with Joe Coughlan leading the way with his very popular recitations and songs. Music was provided by K.K. Kenny and Ray Murphy and friends, with many contributions by the very large crowd present. It was a very enjoyable beginning to the New Year and sincere thanks is due to everyone who turned out on the day to walk, to Co.Offaly Civil Defence for their back-up, the soup team and Mrs. Mary Gleeson at the Idle Corner, Brian Meacle, Joe Coughlan, the sponsors of the prizes, and the ladies in Ballyboy who provided the refreshments. A special thanks to Mrs. Molly Boland for her very generous support for Offaly Hospice and the Ramblers.
A reminder that the Ramblers 'night out' is on Friday 17th Jan. It is a buffet supper at Birr Rugby Club and tickets are 10Euro. Names to be given to Mary Feighery (35091) or Seamus Barron (35274 or 087/6982937), before Mon. 13th Jan.
A meeting of the ramblers will take place on Mon. 13th Jan. in the Community Centre, at 8.00p.m. and all outstanding sponsorship cards and money from the New Years Day walk should be returned by then to any member of the committee.
