President's
Prize
K.K. Golf Society held its May outing to Tullamore Golf Club. 37 members
competed for the President's (Joe Coleman) Prize. It was a perfect day
for golf and the scoring was very close as members battled it out for
the honour of winning Joe's prize. Three members tied on 36 points but
the winner on the back nine was Liam Rosney who just pipped Declan Lowry
and Conor Slevin. Winners in category 1 were Matthew Feighery 35pts, Tom
Daly 35pts and Ronan Coleman 33pts. Category 2 winners were Peter Harte
32pts, John Flynn 32pts and Seamus Spain 30 pts. The nines prizes were
won by Denis Guinan 18pts and Dermot Troy 19pts. In presenting his prize,
Joe thanked all the members for supporting the outing and congratulated
all the winners. A putting competition organised by Kevin Clarke and Joe
added to the enjoyment of the day and funds raised were donated to the
Alzheimer's Association. Below are some photos of the day.
Mick
Troy Trophy
The society held its first outing of the year in Mountrath Golf Club.
Thirty two members played in the very popular Mick Troy Perpetual Trophy
and the good weather and excellent course meant that good golf had to
be played to capture the coveted prize. In a tight finish John Flynn just
did enough with a great score of 40 points to hold off Conor Slevin on
39 points and John Delaney on 37 points. Declan Lowry, Paul Troy and Joe
Slevin featured in category one and Alan Troy, Brendan Bennett and Peter
Mitchell were winners
in category two. The nines prizes went to Martin Delaney and Tom Daly.
Dermot Troy presented the trophy on behalf of the Troy family and captain
Thomas Moylan welcomed new members and thanked everyone for supporting
the outing.
Castle
Barna Outing
The final outing of 2009 had to be postponed twice because of
weather problems. It was finally played in Feb. 2010 and produced some
really good golf. Matthew Feighery won with an amazing 47 pts., but John
Delaney also had a great round of 44 pts. Paul Troy finished third on
38 pts. The category prizes went to Joe Slevin, Jimmy Quinn and Trevor
Fletcher in Cat. 1. Alan Troy, Tim Guinan and Seamus Spain won in Cat.
2. The nines prizes went to Darrell Lowry and Peter Mitchell.
Trevor Fletcher finished the year in style with his team winning the team
event and he captured the Golfer of the Year award, just pipping Matthew
Feighery.
Jimmy Quinn, captain, thanked everyone for their support and announced
Tom Moylan as captain for 2010.
Captain's
Prize 2009
The Kilcormac
Killoughey Golf society held their ‘Captain’s prize’
outing on Saturday week last at ‘Highfield Golf club’ Co Kildare.
There was a super turnout of thirty five golfers to honour this year’s
captain ‘Jimmy Quinn’. The weather was dry on the day and
the golf course held up reasonably well despite all the rain over the
preceding days.
Heartiest congratulations to Tom Daly for a fine win in what was a keenly
contested competition.
The results of the overall competition were as follows:
Overall 1st Tom Daly 38 points; 2nd Gary Clark 37 points (21 on back 9);
3rd Paul Lowry 37 points (18 on back 9). The third round of the team competition
has now been completed and also valuable points have been obtained towards
the ‘Golfer of the year’ award. Last outing of the year -
‘Castle Barna on 21st November next.
Below are some photos of the day.
Louis
Moore President's Prize
This was a very special day in Tullamore Golf Club for the society as
members gathered to honour Louis, who sadly passed away in February. President
of the society since it was founded, Louis was a real father figure to
all the members and was immensely proud of the way the society operated.
He was held in great esteem by all the members, as was evident from the
large number who turned out to form a guard of honour for his funeral.
A minute's silence was observed at the golf club at the presentation of
his prize.
Thirty four members competed for Louis' prize and the winner on the day
was Arthur Marsh with 37points, closely followed by Trevor Fletcher on
36 and Jimmy Quinn with 35 points.
Louis
Moore, President of the society since 1996, who died in February 2009.

intervening years interest has remained high with an annual membership
of over 50 and an average attendance at outings of 40.
