KILCORMAC RAMBLERS
Once again the Kilcormac Ramblers came up trumps with the ‘away
outing’ this year.
On Sunday last over forty people set off for Castlepollard, Mullaghamean
Forest Park and the ancient village of Fore, and from boarding the
bus at 10.00a.m. to returning approx. 12 hours later it was a wonderful
day of walking, sightseeing and entertainment. Despite the day getting
off to a wet start the rain did not deter the group. In Mullaghmean
Forest Park members of the Ramblers played their part in the rescue
of a young cyclist who had suffered a serious accident, and the Ramblers
send good wishes for a speedy recovery to Noel Joyce, Tullamore, and
hope he is recovering well. Following the walk in the Forest Park
the ramblers set off for Fore. Here there was plenty of entertainment
with refreshments, a guide to show off the Wonders of Fore, and a
‘seanchai’ with storytelling. It was with great reluctance
that the ramblers had to leave to go back to Castlepollard, where
an evening meal was booked. However, in Connie’s in Castlepollard,
following the meal, the ramblers continued with their enjoyment and
raised the roof with music and singing, before leaving for home.
Chairperson Seamus Barron thanked everyone for making the day so successful
and enjoyable. He also expressed thanks to the ‘seanchai’
in Fore Jimmy, and the guide John. Presentations of Paddy Heaney’s
book “ At the Foot of the Slieve Blooms”, were made to
both men. Thanks also went to the Jane in the Coffee shop in Fore
and her staff for all her help and to Connies in Castlepollard for
a wonderful meal. Seamus also thanked Eddie Spain and Mary Feighery
who organised the day out, and particular thanks to our musicians
Liam, Tommy and Teresa and storytellers, and John the bus driver,
for getting everyone there and back safely. Good wishes were sent
to Denis O’Driscoll, who was unable to be with us. Looking forward
already to next year.

a safe journey.
THE LATE MRS. SALLY LEAHY
The death has taken place on 22nd of July 2005 of Sally Leahy, 31
Kinnitty Road, Kilcormac. Sally, who was a native to the parish, married
her husband Jack in 1953 and started up home in Tullamore, where they
were the first to deliver bottle milk around Tullamore. They then
came back to Kilcormac and started up a fuel merchant and in later
years went into sand & gravel. Sally had six children Sean, Maria,
Paul, Gerard, Martina, & Adrian. Sad to say Sean only lived seven
months and was laid to rest in peace with his great grand parents
in Ballyboy churchyard.
Sally was always where the craic would be and would love nothing better
than to dress up or down for any occasion. “Tramps balls”
in Ballyboy in the early years, and more recently Saint Patrick Day
parades in Kilcormac, or when one of her many good friends Attracta
Dooley would be having friends or relations from over seas to visit
Sally would be called on to entertain or join in the craic. Sally
will also be missed at local events for her butter making at threshings
with another of her friends Carmel Charles. Sally was also a great
person for her religious spirit and many times herself and another
good friend Liam Hand would go to Clonfert, Holy Cross and Knock where
she would return with a cart load of Mass cards for all who were sick
or to wish people well. There is one trip that she always talked and
had a great laugh about, again with another good friend Teresa Coyne,
Jack and herself headed for the big smoke to America to the wedding
of Kathleen Troy & Allen Molloy daughter of Paddy & Bernie.
It was a great time for them as all their neighbours were out there
and as we all know there are very few joyful times for neighbors to
be together. We could go on forever but we know that Sally would have
been very proud of her send off. She always knew she was very well
liked and it was proved to her by the drove of people who called to
the house, funeral parlour and attended the funeral. There is no doubt
she will be missed by all, but most of all by her husband Jack and
their five children, who was not only a wife and good mother but also
their best friend. May she Rest In Peace.
Month’s memory mass will be on Sunday the 28th of August at
11 o clock in Kilcormac church.
